Sasha

Sasha, real name Alexander Coe, is one of the most important DJs of the last 15 years. He was born in 1969 in North Wales and rose to prominence during the late 1980s and early 1990s. During this time he was resident DJ at clubs such as Shelly's in Stoke, the Hacienda in Manchester and Renaissance. It was at the latter where he hooked up with John Digweed to form a formidable DJ alliance that shaped the next 10 years or so of progressive house music with DJ mix releases such as 'Renaissance: The Mix Collection' and the 'Northern Exposure' series. They also undertook many spectacular tours such as their 'Delta Heavy Tour' in 2002, which showed that DJs could tour at huge venues like bands and put on great shows. Also their residency at Twilo in New York in the early 2000s was legendary and made them famous in America.

Most of Sasha's best mixes have been broadcasted as essential mixes on BBC's Radio 1 such as his mix from Privilege Manumission in Ibiza, 2002 and Glastonbury 2003 as well as more recently the Essential Mix of the year 2005 live from Maida Vale on Ableton Live. Also his part of the Delta Heavy Tour, Miami, 2002 which won EM of the Year in 2002 for Sasha and Digweed, is excellent. Another standout is his mix from CD1 from his Global Underground: Ibiza. In the last few years Sasha has gotten more and more into production and new styles of DJing. His 'Airdrawndagger' album which he produced with Spooky's Charlie May was a triumph for heavy bass orientated progressive house and breaks. Recently he has put the decks and cds to one side and ventured into real time virtual mixing using Ableton Live. He has even developed his own box of tricks which uses an interface with his Apple Mac called Maven. His recent release 'Fundacion NYC' showcases this and shows that the future is bright whilst DJs like Sasha continue to push back the boundaries and take on new challenges.
