Indie/Dance
This section combines several different kinds of alternative music: indie music, dance music and indie-dance. Indie-dance music is typified by New Order's sound: electronic synths, electric bass and post punk rock. 'Blue Monday' laid down the blueprint for this genre of music in the mid 1980s. Indie music is typified by UK bands such as the Stone Roses, Doves and Oasis to some extent. The very general and vague term 'dance' music I use to mean commercially successful electronic acts such as Orbital, the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers.
