Danny Krivit is a DJ and producer from New York. He grew up in the 1960s and was surrounded by influential musicians from when he was knee-high to a grasshopper until the present day. His mother was a jazz singer and his dad was the manager of the trumpeter Chet Baker. His father went on to open a disco called 'The Ninth Circle' in the village where Danny worked and at the same time hooked up with the who's who of musical talent in 60s and 70s NY. This included Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, John and Yoko, Nile Rogers and James Brown.
Danny had progressed to be a talented young DJ and his dad opened a new nightclub called 'Ones' where Danny was the sole DJ. He then went on to DJ at the Loft, the Paradise Garage and the Loft where he formed important friendships with Larry Levan and Francois K. He even DJed with Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaata and became known as Danny Rock as he was one of a few white boys who could scratch mix.
Since the 1980s Danny has been churning out quality re-hashings of old soul and funk records including some tracks by James Brown, Diana Ross and Sly & The Family Stone. His reworkings have become revered as he keeps the original feel of tracks but adds some classic house elements. His DJing has progressed to encompass a very deep house sound where he has a real talent for spotting uplifting vocals without too much cheese grated on top.
His DJing talents were combined with Joe Claussell and Francois K on the NYC: Body & Soul Volumes 1-4, which showcasted the deep NY house sound.
