Bent
Bent were formed in 1997 by Simon Mills & Nail Tolliday in Nottingham, England. Tolliday used to be a member of the Birmingham electronica syndicate DIY. At the time they were fed up with the formulaic nature of the dance music of the late 1990s and to put this right they released their fantastic debut 'Programmed to Love'. Here was an album blessed with greatness in abundance: quirky electronica with vocal snippets and haunting melodies shimmering with sonic samples from a by-gone era. They really did create a truly unique blend of chilled 'lounge' music. On this particular album there were standouts such as 'Always' and 'I Remember Jonny' which were bass-driven tracks with awesome samples and melodies that were extremely catchy. Since then they have released a further three albums which includes 2004's 'Ariels' which saw Bent become more engaged in their own songwriting and 2006's 'Intercept!' which includes some more indie-rock elements. They've also been responsible for a couple of mix albums: 'Fabric Live 11' and 'Later' which sees Bent play some fine funky electro tunes from the likes of Metro Area.
